Song Spotlights: Five Random Songs

SO MUCH TO LISTEN TO, so little time.  Some things I’ve been digging of late,  in no particular order:

“Gift of Flesh” – Def Leppard  From their underrated and under-performing (vs. the epic sales of HysteriaSlang  album comes this rocker. One of those songs that is great to hear during a workout – that intro is massive!

“Cool” – Soccer Mommy This song is by Sophie Allison, who goes by the stage name Soccer Mommy. Hailing from Nashville, her music is described as “chill but kinda sad bedroom pop.” You can also describe it as…cool.

“Who Cares” – Paul McCartney A fun, upbeat rocking pop ditty, that McCartney seemingly could write in his sleep. With a fun video featuring actress Emma Stone, too. From his recent/new Egypt Station album which is very good, too. Definitely worth checking out.

“Thought She’d Be Mine” – Stone Temple Pilots  STP got another new singer and released a very good album in 2018. Yes, Jeff Gutt sounds la lot like Scott Weiland at times, and why shouldn’t he? The bottom line: Dean and Robert DeLeo are great musicians, and anything they do is worth a listen. Especially this song.

“Tall Trees” – Matt Mays & El Torpedo  Yet another awesome artist I found via the Canadian Rock channel on Sirius/XM. Straight-up & solid guitar rock, with some Tom Petty-esque overtones and times. Passionate vocals and great hooks…he should be a superstar.
