Song Spotlight: A Nearly Forgotten Cheap Trick Song, “Say Goodbye”

From their amazing 1997 album Cheap Trick comes this gem, “Say Goodbye.”  This album has alternately been called “CT97” and “the Red Ant Album” by fans, the latter title referring to the label that released the album, Red Ant, who went belly-up just a few weeks after the album came out. Sometimes, for Cheap Trick, if not for bad luck the band would have little luck at all.

Its a great tune, instantly hummable, with a simple effective arrangement featuring a hook and melody that immediately embeds in your brain. Like so many songs in the CT catalog, it’s disappearance from any set list for (likely) over a decade borders on criminal. Hell, the entire CT album is fantastic, and was regarded as a comeback, musically. And its one of their better videos, too, with cameos from various Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander progeny.
