WHEN I WAS A KID, this was the SR-71 Blackbird was the baddest, coolest plane of them all. I drew pictures of the plane (well, tried to), built plastic models, read whatever I could find on this unique, air-speed record-setting spy plane. Built by Lockheed Martin in the 1960s and decommissioned in 1998, the SR-71 Blackbird remains the fastest aircraft to have ever been flown.
Now, as an adult, I still get a little of those same feelings when I read something about the jet – and better, still, when I can see footage of the plane in-flight. Something I never saw as a kid back in the 70’s. Once again, thank you, internet: See Newly Released NASA Footage of the Fastest Plane Ever Flown
