Happy Birthday, Bernie Taupin

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Bernie Taupin who co-wrote Elton John’s biggest hits, born May 22, 1950.  Among the great songs they wrote together are “Rocket Man”, “Levon“, “Crocodile Rock“, “Honky Cat”, “Tiny Dancer“, “Candle in the Wind“, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”, “Bennie and the Jets“, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road“, “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters“, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me“, “The Bitch is Back“, “Daniel“, and 1970’s “Your Song“, their first hit.

Here’s what might be my favorite Elton John song, with some of my favorite Taupin lyrics, “Someone Save My Life Tonight” from the album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy:

Interestingly, “Someone Save My Life Tonight” was the album’s only single, released in 1975. It was the first album to ever enter at #1 in the history of music on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the top 25 on the UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” was certified Gold on 10 September 1975 by the RIAA.
