ENTER TO WIN A COPY of the new book, NEW BARBARIANS: OUTLAWS, GUNSLINGERS AND GUITARS. It’s the first-ever history of the side-project band that Ronnie Wood of the ROLLING STONES formed in 1979 – that also included Keith Richards.
Wood formed the band in 1979 to tour behind his solo album Gimme Some Neck as the Stones were on a hiatus. The band also included Keith Richards, bassist extraordinaire Stanley Clarke, and Stones sidemen Bobby Keys and Ian McLagan. For Keith, the activity was much-needed as his sentence for his infamous 1977 drug bust in Toronto was to play two charity concerts. Those shows, and a subsequent U.S. tour re-energized Keith during a really difficult time, which included him finally kicking heroin. As he put it, “the Barbarians saved my life.” How this all came to be is explored with new interviews and insights from the band and crew.
The book also features nearly 350 photos, the majority of them previously unpublished (check out a sample, below). In addition, included with the book is a 10-track New Barbarians CD recorded live.
The book will officially be out in January, and you’ll find it at your favorite bookstore and online
